He dominated the playground in the 70s and graced many family photos. After that, he disappeared for a while and is now back again – the corduroy. My look today, a nice brown corduroy skirt with plateau sneakers.
Not the word corduroy, but „Manchester“ keeps popping up in my head. Why do we actually say „Manchester“? A question about a textile that for a long time was unanswered for me. The first hype had the material in the 70s. In our old family photo albums, there are still some pictures of my parents, they pose in their manchester-trumpet-pants.
The second hype came in 2000. I still remember how I wore my brown Miss Sixty pants very proudly 😉 And now the trend is in the spotlight for the third time.
Personally, I have always liked this trend. That’s why I’ve expanded my wardrobe with a brown miniskirt. But not only that; I wanted to know why we say „Manchester“ to this material. And the answer is pretty obvious.
The material corduroy was invented in the 18th century in England, more specifically in Manchester. For this reason, in Switzerland and in Germany, corduroy clothes were simply called “Manchester” for a long time.
I combine the brown corduroy with a white body and platform sneakers.
