Eco Edit by Asos

Each of us has probably ordered something from Asos. It is one of the largest online mail order companies in the UK, which means they produce a lot, fast and not always eco-friendly. But since a while, they are produce a eco-friendly line as well.

In 2010, Asos launched its own brand “Eco Edit by Asos“. The collection includes a selection of dresses, accessories and beauty products. They produce together with different fair partners, such as the Kenyan textile manufacturer Soko Kenya. These are committed to fair working conditions in Africa. In the collection, they use environmental-friendly material like Tencel.

On the website you can also search with the term “recycled” and you get various garments that have been made from sustainable materials.

The category “recycled” includes garments made from second-hand materials, waste, plastic and textile waste. Likewise, there are substances that need less water and are better for the environment because they are free of paraben.

Asos has also completely eliminated angora and other fur species from the range. In addition, since 2009, they have been members of the ETI (Ethical Trade Initiative), which strives to promote the respect and rights of employees worldwide.

Even though Asos still does not produce most of his clothes according to the Eco Norm, it is at least a beginning and a sign in the fashion industry that even big suppliers can and should produce more sustainable.
