Capsule Wardrobe – how to build a sustainable closet

The word capsule wardrobe is becoming more popular and more of a trend. I am going to show you what it is and how easily you can create one for yourself.

For those who don’t know what a capsule wardrobe means, here a short explanation: The expression capsule wardrobe, became famous in the 70s from the British fashion icon Susie Faux. The expression means to reduce your wardrobe with a collection of around 40 items of clothing, they are practical and versatile.

What you need, when you want to create a capsule wardrobe is to keep classic and timeless items like blazers, jeans, blouses, or shirts. It is important that you can combine the garments with other pieces in your closet.  For example, your favorite blouse, which you can wear open, closed, mix with pants, shorts or a skirt. Of course, there has to be a few extravagant pieces too.

Clear up your closet is not always easy. I speak from my own experience. To make decisions easier, it helps to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Did I wear these garments for the past two years?
  • Does it fit in my everyday lifestyle?
  • Is it easy to combine with other clothes?
  • Do I really like this garment?

If you are interested in creating your own capsule wardrobe, I think it is important to give this process time. It doesn’t have to change everything in one day. If you are taking your time, you will gonna be more familiar with this situation and as well keep the right clothes you really love and wear continually.
