Because of our long trip this year through South America, I feel a special connection to the brand “Mama Tierra”. A brand of indigenous crafts combined with western trends. The results are handcrafted and high-quality single pieces.
„Mama Tierra“, in English „Mother Earth“ is a Swiss non-profit organization founded in 2014. Their goal: to support indigenous women in South America by promoting their traditional handicrafts. Their vision is to defeat the poverty in La Guajira, in the north of South America. In the same place, they have the studio, where indigenous people have the opportunity to make a living from their craft. Meanwhile, Mama Tierra supports 833 Indigenous people each month with self-help projects in the fields of environmental protection and social issues.
For some of you, the design may seem familiar, as the patterns on the accessories are designed by Desigual designer Coral Hernandez Finol.
The beautiful case that I wear today is called “Ojo”, in English “Eye”. The meaning comes from the South American popular belief, which says that disapproved glances can harm people. The eye on the case should protect the wearer from envy.
